Why play a druid?

Back in 2007 when I was choosing my first class to play in World of Warcraft, I talked to some friends and came to the conclusion that I either wanted to play a hunter or a druid. The descriptions my friends gave me were pretty clear, did I want to shapeshift or have a combat pet? After my experience in WoW over the years I now know that those descriptions were very, very incomprehensive. But I did choose druid and it took me about 5 months to level to 80 (yeah I started during BC but didn't finish leveling until wrath came out). I think that everyones leveling experience on their first toon is and always will be the best experience. When I was leveling I was constantly distracted by funny looking mobs, general chat, and other players silly questions. I would carefully read quest text to know exactly what I had to do and try to understand what the game was all about. I met many other people along my leveling process including multiple husband wife duos, father son pairs, and friend to buddy combos. The druid class as I saw it back then was very unique and different from all the other classes. The jack of all trades as others would tell me. After months and months of derping around in azeroth and the outlands, I finally went to the store and bought wrath. Experiencing wrath was immersive, involved, and well put together. Maybe its just nostalgia from good old WoW (yes wrath, at least according to my generation) I still cherish those memories of battling it out in the frozen wastelands of northrend. Getting to northrend I considered myself and "experienced" leveler and my questing comprised of mass pulling, taging others adds (douchey I know), and farming dungeons with excellent company. My first guild was on the very same server I leveled on, Grizzly Hills. And my first taste of raiding experience was Trial of the Crusader. To me, right off the bat raids were overwhelming from my healing PoV and could only be described as dungeons on steroids. Although at the time I didn't know how good I had it. Resto Druids would reign supreme and that was pretty much the only thing I had going for me. The concept of HoTs, although not considered when choosing the druid class, was intriguing to me. I could set and forget and with a few months experience, be at the top of my class. Present day cataclysm, to me, is nice and all. But that first experience of raiding in northrend still can not be beat. Ever since then I have been raiding primarily as a resto druid but have played around in the other specs. The resto druid class is diverse, immersive, and involved and loved by many. This blog was started on the basis of the class itself and I hope to be a driving force in the druid blogging community in years to come.
